Happy Mother's Day to Us All

As I was getting ready for church this morning, I was hoping that the scripture and tone of Mass would be a reflection on motherhood.

It looks like I received my wish :-)  Today should be known as Love Sunday.
Scripture mentions love 20 times today!

Beloved, let us love one another,
because love is of God;
everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.
In this way the love of God was revealed to us:
God sent his only Son into the world
so that we might have life through him.
In this is love:
not that we have loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
Jn 15:9-17

 Jesus said to his disciples:
"As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father"s commandments
and remain in his love."

"I have told you this so that my joy may be in you

and your joy might be complete.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves,
because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another."
Jn 15:9-17

It does not get any simpler than this.  We are told to love one another and that is what today is all about.  Loving each other.

As a mom, I don't expect any extravagant celebration honoring me today.  I just want to bask in the love of my children and love them and have them love me.  I did receive some lovely gifts :-)  They each made me darling cards, some beautiful flowers that I will plant in a few moments and some wind chimes.  The wind chimes are tradition here.  My boys know I love them and I look forward to getting a new one each Mother's Day.  Some day when they have families of their own, I will look lovingly at the wind chimes that I have collected over the years and remember fondly each Mother's Day.

A Mother's Prayer
Thank you, Lord,
for bringing my children into my life.
Help me guide them and teach them through example to lead lives of wisdom and strong loving faith.
Please let them learn to serve you always in thought and deed.
And remind me, Lord, to always be there for my family as you are always there for me.

I wish all of you lovely mothers a wonderful day filled with much love and laughter!
