Erin Go Bragh~

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!

We really love St. Patrick's Day around here. My grandfather came from Cork, Ireland and we try to enjoy our heritage as much as possible today.

We begin a few weeks before making Leprechaun catchers in hopes of catching the tricky wee one! We have yet to catch him. The Leprechaun that visits our home each year is named Clancy and he has quite the sense of humor! Each year he turns our milk and toilet water green! He does not like to see the traps either and has a very good time flipping them around and wreaking havoc with them. Sometimes he leaves little notes or goodies. This year he left some Fool's Gold for the boys since we were unsuccessful in catching him.

We always begin the day by making some shamrock pancakes tinted green with Clancy's milk. We don't think that he realizes that Lovey Dovey's milk is in the blue Rice Dreams container since he always leaves that one alone, but LD is totally okay with having regular GF pancakes that are not green ;)

We listen to beautiful Celtic music while we eat breakfast and then read a little bit about St. Patrick in Around the Year: Once Upon a Time Saints .
Then we made some really yummy Irish Soda Bread. This is really hands down the BEST recipe I have come across for it and I have given the recipe to many friends who have loved it too. I make it without the seeds since I don't keep them on hand.

We really enjoy the day and remember family and good friends who are not with us anymore. It is a good time just to relax and enjoy some family time!

This has always been my favorite Irish blessing. My mother made a pretty embroidered picture of it when I was little that I wish I still had.

"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand."

May you enjoy all of the blessings that St. Patrick holds for you today!
